An Epic School Group Season
As the summer holidays kick off, it marks the conclusion of a successful season of visiting school groups who’ve been with us since April, via our partner First Wave Adventures.
Great Western Beach played host to 10 different school groups from all over the UK. Pupils ranged in age from 7 years old right up to university age, and between them they participated in all of our different activities, beach safe lifeguard training, surfing, bodyboarding, coasteering, team building skills, silent discos and beach BBQs, in a variety of different packages.

First Wave Adventures is passionate about delivering amazing and valuable school trips, packed full of fun learning opportunities, and so between April and July it’s a big part of what we do here at Great Western Beach. Our aim is to help children develop life skills, build confidence, and learn ocean skills, as well as create wonderful memories that will last for years to come.
There is nothing better than seeing kids out in the fresh air and natural elements, away from their screens, and simply able to enjoy being kids. Whilst we are teaching them about the beach environment, how to stay safe in the water, and developing their communication and teamwork skills through ocean activities, they’re also building sandcastles, playing tag, laughing, running and splashing.
It’s awesome to see kids thriving in the ocean environment, supporting their peers, stepping outside of their comfort zones and building relationships with their classmates and teachers outside of the usual school routine.
Lessons are more simple down at the beach, no computers, whiteboards or fashion shows, the uniform is simply a wetsuit, sandy toes and a sun kissed nose. The natural marine environment is one of the greatest classrooms we could wish for, and we look forward to sharing it with our school groups again next year.
