Coastal Crusaders

Coastal Crusaders is a Community Interest Company which aims to educate, create social environments, integration and advancements to levels of health, fitness and social interactivity.

Our key focus is on working in partnership with schools and their students

We offer our Surf 2 Success programme of motivational, supervised opportunities to participate in a range of ocean activities, including swimming, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, aquatic life saving, Yoga, Mindfulness and surf-specific fitness.

Coastal Crusaders is delighted to call Great Western Beach home.

It’s the perfect location due to its sandy classroom like conditions, being sheltered from the prevailing wind and swell and it’s an accessible location too, being step free and having a disabled toilet onsite.

Our Directors

Our directors have a lifetime of experience in surfing, beach-lifeguarding and ocean coaching between them, for all different ages, skill-sets and needs.

Tom and Adam have over twenty national surfing titles and have represented Great Britain at the world games. They have been ranked in the top five surfers at world level for their respective disciplines of big wave surfing and long boarding on the World Surf League tours and speciality XXL big wave awards.

Tom Butler came up with the idea for Coastal Crusaders in 2016, after a fall on a big wave in Nazare, Portugal left him time to think while on the hospital bed. Grateful for a supportive family, who were instrumental in giving him a career which has taken him around the world, he developed the idea of using ocean sports as a way of supporting children who are struggling to thrive in education.

Tom had his own challenges at school, but came alive in a sporting environment, where he has always felt at home. He believes young people need positive role models to give them hope and show them their unique talents can lead them to a full and prosperous life.

Pablo Sisca grew up in Argentina spending summers lifeguarding and surfing along the coast. He competed at world level as a gymnast for Argentina focusing mainly on tumbling and trampoline. He is now a personal trainer and has coached strength and conditioning and sport specific training for, gymnasts, athletics, swimmers, surfers and surf life saving athletes.

Combine Pablo’s competitive background with ocean knowledge and you have a very well rounded trainer who sets out fun sport specific training programmes. He has input into the fitness and physical aspects of your sporting session coaching with Coastal Crusaders.

Adam Griffiths is one of the most successful Longboard surfers in the world.

Adam’s life revolves around the ocean if he’s not on Great Western beach managing his Surf School and beach restaurant then he will be out at sea dropping a line off his commercial fishing boat “Lakey Jo”. Any spare time Adam has he will be at the beach relaxing with his wife and two young daughters in the rock pools and tiny waves.

Adam and Tom have worked together for the last 15 years coaching different ocean sports for a mixed bag of clients.
